Te Auaha Online Delivery Courses

Whitireia/Weltec’s Te Auaha campus has a close connection with a few institutions in China teaching the students over there various design courses. Pre-Covid, this was all done face-to-face with talented tutors from New Zealand being sent over to China for weeks at a time. Post-Covid however, Te Auaha was quick to adapt a new online model for these courses and also took the initiative to revamp them also.

From 2020-2021, I was brought in to develop three online courses alongside Alice Moore who currently leads the China Projects and Brenda Saris who is the Programme Manager. Normally, online courses will take many months to develop but we had to develop the individual courses within weeks at a time instead.

In order to deliver each of these courses, we needed to provide in-depth video tutorials and PDF Documents for each class, create our own examples (sometimes multiple) of the outcomes of the courses, learn new software ourselves and finally, recruit and train tutors who would be teaching the courses. There were also plenty of cultural and language barriers, technical limitations and time restraints to hurdle over.

The three courses we ended up developing were Interactive Studio, Image Studio and Applied Media.
